Ravel: Miroirs

Canadian pianist Sonia Chan has won attention as an outstanding pianist through numerous appearances in North America and abroad. She gave her solo debut at the age of six and has been featured as soloist with many prominent orchestras in North America.

Ms. Chan’s has given solo recitals in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and Rockefeller University in New York, the Salle Cortot in France, the Debut Series at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada, Jordan Hall and the Gardner Museum in Boston, and the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Canada. In addition to playing for Her Majesty the Queen, Ms. Chan has performed recitals at the Bennett Gordon Hall in Chicago, San Luis Obispo’s Mozart Festival in California, Town Hall in New Hampshire, Chopin Festival in El Paso, Texas, Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, and the Santa Rosa Recital Series in California. Chan also performed on the Virtuosi Series (recorded by the CBC for national broadcast) in Winnipeg, Canada.

Ms. Chan began her studies at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music at the age of five with Marina Geringas. She continued her studies at the Glenn Gould Professional School in Toronto with Marek Jablonski and Marc Durand. Chan completed her Bachelor of Music, with honors, at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia studying with pianist Leon Fleisher. She earned her Master’s degree at New England Conservatory in 2002, studying with Russell Sherman, and an Artist Diploma there in 2004. Chan has studied at the prestigious International Piano Academy of Lake Como in Italy where some of her principal teachers included Leon Fleisher, Claude Frank, Menahem Pressler, Dmitri Bashkirov, William Grant Nabore, and Andreas Staier.
